The publisher on Facebook is getting an upgrade. If you haven’t already seen it, it’s being rolled out now with tagging, sharing location, easier way to restrict who sees individual posts (formerly the lock icon), and a way to set your current city. In addition, Facebook rolled some new privacy settings.
You may take this for granted, but many people new to facebook don’t even realize there is something called a publisher. The publisher is the area where you type in your messages (What’s On Your Mind) for sharing on your profile and for the News Feeds of your friends Home pages. Facebook is rolling out changes as follows to the publisher
You may tag more than the 6 people you are allowed within the post. It adds them in a similar way as tagging a photo. This is not considered part of the text of your post.
Share Your Location
Here’s a way to check in and let people know where you are posting from.
This is a great way to customize preference per post on who can view it regardless of your account settings.
- Friends of Friends
- Specific People
- Only Me… (I wonder why this would be useful?)
Then you also get the option to hide from Specific People as well.
Share Your Current City – General
The city you enter will default until you delete it.
New Facebook Privacy Settings
Along with new ways to tag people, you have options to approve prior to being tagged.
To access click: Account –> Privacy Settings
Then select –> How Tags Work
