Are people really using Social Media for Searching?

B2B Community summarized results from the recent Forester Research report entitled
“How Consumers Found Websites in 2012” with some important findings about who’s using social media as a search tool. According to B2B, the report indicated that 50% of 18-24 year olds and 43% of 24 to 32 year olds are using social media as their main internet discovery resource. More importantly, one-third of Americans are using Facebook and Twitter for discovery. I know I do when looking for certain content.

Although the numbers of social searches may not be astronomical, they are impressively increasing. While the popularity of using search engines dipped by 7% since 2010.

Every social media network has a search feature. Be sure you are optimizing your profiles, bio, descriptions, summaries, and content with keywords and hashtags (where appropriate).
